Quality Assurance (QA) in training

Our quality assurance processes

The College's quality assurance in training processes are overseen by our Quality Assurance Committee (QAC), chaired by our Specialist Advisor for Quality Assurance, Dr Suyog Dhakras.

The committee has oversight of the following key areas in training:

  • Externality
  • Applications for Time out of Training (OOP)
  • Results of the National Training Survey
  • Quality Matrix
  • Quality assurance and curricula implementation
  • ARCP outcome variance

The committee currently meet three times a year. For more information about the work currently being undertaken, please contact psychiatrytraining@rcpsych.ac.uk.

Please see our out of programme guidance page.

This is our OOP approval process

The process of flexibility in training time will be as per the  .

In addition, RCPsych recommends:

  • Wide engagement of relevant senior educational leads alongside the key stakeholders (residents, ESs, CSs, TPDs, HoSs) including Trust DMEs in stakeholder discussions

RCPsych recommends including Trust DMEs alongside all the other relevant stakeholders (the residents, ESs, CSs, TPDs and HoSs) so as to ensure that the DMEs can update employer organisations regarding manpower and rota issues and find solutions as early as possible so as to prevent any possible impact on services and also to ensure that residents are not impacted on adversely by these issues.

  • Include External Advisors in ARCP decision-making

This would help us get the relevant quantitative and qualitative data on how this flexibility in training time is being implemented in the context of our capabilities-based curricula. It will also help provide data on the consistency with which standards are being applied across the UK and also help with educational quality assurance.

Are You a College Tutor, or Working in a Similar Role? We’d Love to Reconnect

For some time, it was believed that the traditional College Tutor role had largely been phased out and replaced with titles such as Locality Tutor, Psych Tutor, Postgraduate Clinical Tutor, Educational Supervisor, and others.

However, over recent months we’ve continued to receive enquiries and engagement requests from individuals who still identify as College Tutors and it’s highlighted something important:

The title may have changed, but the function hasn’t

Across the UK, many colleagues are still carrying out the same core responsibilities associated with the College Tutor role, even if they use a different job title. These individuals continue to play a vital part in supporting psychiatric training, local education structures, and the development of the next generation of psychiatrists.

That’s why the 外网天堂 is launching a renewed effort to:

Reconnect with everyone who undertakes this function, whatever your official title may be

If you support Resident Doctors, coordinate education locally, oversee training standards, or perform responsibilities traditionally associated with a College Tutor, we want to ensure you’re part of our communication network.

Why reconnect?

  • To ensure you receive relevant updates, guidance, and opportunities
  • To rebuild a clear and accurate map of local education contacts
  • To support you better in carrying out this essential work
  • To strengthen collaboration across the UK’s training structures

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you

Please complete this and we will be in touch.
