SAS PSS Peer Support Psychiatrist (PSP)

Job purpose
The Psychiatrists' Support Service (PSS) provides free, rapid, high-quality peer support by telephone to psychiatrists of all grades who may be experiencing personal or work-related difficulties. Peer Support Psychiatrists are members of the PSS Committee and College members with the skills and expertise to support colleagues in professional difficulty.
The PSS works with PSPs that represent all grades of the psychiatric workforce, but at the moment we are specifically looking for SAS grade PSPs, so please only apply if you are a SAS grade psychiatrist.
Key responsibilities
- Attend PSS Committee meetings (around three times a year).
- Contribute to reflective case discussions.
- Support colleagues in difficulty in liaison with the Registrar, Head of Training and Workforce, and PSS staff.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and avoid sharing sensitive information by email.
- Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping .
- Securely store and destroy confidential paper records once cases close.
- Maintain agreed communication timelines with colleagues.
- Attend annual training/update days and complete relevant CPD.
- Notify PSS staff of changes in circumstances or availability.
- Escalate any serious concerns immediately.
- Promote the PSS through outreach or social media.
- Contribute to developing/updating PSS information materials.
- Participate in workshops/presentations at external events.
