Event Information
Overview
Sleep disturbance is closely intertwined with mental health, affecting symptom severity, treatment outcomes, and quality of life across a wide range of psychiatric conditions. This one-day CPD event brings together experts from psychiatry, neurology, psychology, and pharmacy to provide a practical and clinically relevant update on the assessment and management of sleep disorders in mental health settings.

About our speakers
For this online event, we will be joined by:
Dr Hugh Selsick, Consultant Psychiatrist
Hugh is a consultant psychiatrist with a special interest in sleep medicine. He is the lead clinician at the Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Clinic at UCLH.
Dr Lauren Waterman, Consultant Psychiatrist, Camden South Core Team, North London NHS Foundation Trust
Dr. Lauren Waterman is a consultant psychiatrist at North London NHS Foundation Trust, specializing in insomnia. She founded and led an insomnia treatment service at the Maudsley Hospital for existing SLaM patients and conducted a comprehensive population health needs assessment for insomnia. Dr Waterman also co-developed an insomnia treatment pathway for North Central London and has contributed to raising awareness and improving access to insomnia treatment at both local and national levels.
Dr Nicholas Meyer, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Nicholas Meyer is a psychiatrist specialising in sleep and circadian medicine, based at the Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine service, UCLH. He is particularly in interested in understanding and developing new interventions for disorders of sleep timing (such as delayed sleep-wake phase disorder).
Catherine Ouriach, Psychotherapist
Catherine is a highly specialist BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a special interest in insomnia and nightmares. She is the lead therapist at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine department of Insomnia and behavioural sleep disorders.

Dr Matthew Walker, Consultant Neurologist
Matthew Walker is Professor of Neurology at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His research and clinical interests are epilepsy and neurological sleep disorders. He has acted as an expert witness in cases involving violence or sexual acts from sleep.
Dr Newsha Hajiloo, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Kirstie Anderson, Consultant Neurologist
Dr Kirstie Anderson is the neurology lead for the paediatric and adult sleep service in Newcastle and honorary senior clinical lecturer at Newcastle University. Research interests are the role of sleep in mental health and neurodegeneration with over 100 research papers, reviews and book chapters. She was the clinical lead for the online insomnia CBT, Sleepstation and has written a self help insomnia book with a teen sleep book coming out later this year. National roles include honorary medical advisor to the DVLA and past president of the sleep medicine section of the RSM.

This event is primarily targeted toward psychiatrists, but it is also open to other non-psychiatric medical professionals and allied health professionals (AHP).

How will the event work online?
This event will be taking place online via a platform called EventsAir. Registered participants will receive their link to join the conference in their joining instructions. Joining instructions will be sent out in the days before the conference is due to take place.
